Psalm 91
This devotion is for everyone who needs a “safe place.”
As I write this, Philip Zodhiates has spent his first night in prison. He needs a “safe place,” or should I say a “place of security.”
Psalm 91 is the perfect place to look for security and safety. That place is found in verse 1: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
The Almighty provides safety and security for believers no matter where they are or whatever their circumstances.
The Psalm goes on to say other things about the Lord:
- He is our refuge and fortress (verse 2)
- He will deliver us from harm (verse 3)
- He will cover us; be our shield (verse 4)
- We shall not be afraid (verse 5)
In verse 11, the Psalmist tells us that God will discharge His angels to look over us. Why would God do all these things for us?
God answers the question in verses 14-16:
14 Because he has set his love upon me (God speaking), therefore, will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because has know my name. 15 He shall call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
Love God, trust him fully, and He will respond. He will become your refuge and strength during hard times. Ask Philip – he knows that God intimately.
