Freedom

Colossians 1:13-14

“Who has delivered us from the power of darkness; and has translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son; in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”

As I pondered this verse, I asked myself what is freedom, what does it mean to be free from the power of darkness?

Freedom that only Christ can give is 3-fold: freedom from outside evil forces, freedom from sin and guilt and freedom to live our lives according to the scriptures. I’m sure you can think of other things from which you have been freed, as well.

Forgiveness of sins is the biggie for me. Being forgiven brings its own special kind of freedom – there is no more guilt, and you know if you mess up again, God will forgive you. He is that kind of God – faithful and true and always forgiving.

But, does that mean we can just go on sinning knowing we will be forgiven. As Paul said, “God forbid!” Paul admonishes us in Ephesians 4:1: “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worth of the vocation to which you are called…”

Why should we walk worthy? Because

Ephesians  1:3       we are blessed with every spiritual blessing

1:4       we have been chosen

1:5       we were predestined to be adopted

1:7       we have been redeemed, forgiven

1:13     we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit

1:18     we are called to the hope

2:8       we are saved by grace

2:10     we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus

2:13     we have been brought near

2:18     we have access to the Father

3:11     we have an eternal purpose

3:16     we have power through the Holy Spirit

3:20     we have power working in us

What freedom and blessings God has bestowed on those who have received His Son as their Savior.
