Lisa Miller Case

“Dear friends,

“We’ve recently received this very disappointing news about Ken’s release. We’ve been looking forward for a long time to having Ken  home by Christmas. He was planning to spend about 3 months here in home confinement.

“Due to budget cuts to the halfway house processing my home confinement, I lost the home confinement time. At this point my release date is March 6 instead of December 15. We’re terribly disappointed of course, but giving it all into God’s hands, and plan to be happy anyway.

“We’re requesting approval for home-confinement through another little-used program. Please pray that the local and regional case managers and the U.S probation office will approve this plan. Please pray that he could still be home by Christmas.”

Update on Philip Zodhiates

Lisa & Isabella, 2009

I was convicted of international parental kidnapping and conspiracy on September 29, 2017 for my alleged assistance in Lisa and Isabella Miller’s fleeing the country. I am thankful for the prayers, the financial assistance toward my legal bills and hundreds of reference letters sent to the judge prior to sentencing in March 2017.

I was sentenced to two concurrent three-year sentences in a federal prison in Petersburg, Virginia, but remain free pending my appeal. My appeal will likely be heard sometime next year. There are two main basis for my appeal.

  1. The first – the judge instructed the jury to disregard Virginia law (Marriage Amendment) that protects it from recognizing laws in other states that allow same-sex marriage.  The events for which I was on trial for happened in 2009, before the Supreme Court’s Obergefell decision.
  2. The other basis for my appeal has to do with the government not getting a warrant prior to acquiring cell phone location data from my cell phone company.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard the “Carpenter” case on November 29.  A favorable verdict in this case could very likely reverse my conviction. My appeal will probably be heard before the Supreme Court’s decision on “Carpenter.”

Please continue to pray, and if possible, donate to my 419 Fund opportunity to assist me and my family.

Thank you again for being such a friend!

In His service,

Giving Tuesday

We began with Thanksgiving, then Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. As we began with thanking the Lord for all His blessings, we can now bless others (and ourselves) by participating in Giving Tuesday.

Jesus says in Acts 20:35:It is more blessed to give than to receive.

Today we ask that you bless others in need and give to one of our many funding opportunities supporting Christian brothers and sisters seeking financial support around the world.

Bear One Another’s Burdens

I’m sure that a number of you have something in your own life that seems to be too much for you to handle: a loss, a decision, a responsibility, a relationship breakdown. If that’s you, I encourage you to reach out to someone in our community. We are made for fellowship (I Peter 3:8) and charged with bearing one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). This, too, is a grace, for both parties. I John 4:18 tells us that there is no fear in love and that perfect love casts out fear. Often the challenges we face stoke our fears; we look at what’s in front of us, measure it against our meager resources, and feel anxious about the disparity. How in those moments can we claim the promise of 2 Timothy 1:7, that God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear? How do we live in the spirit he has promised—of power, love, and a sound mind?
I would encourage you to abide in Jesus and to participate in a community of believers who center their thoughts on him, as I hope our department is doing. I don’t mean this as a Jesus-juke, or a mere bit of wishful thinking that ignores the challenges of the world. I say look to Jesus because in Him God became flesh. Jesus knows first-hand what we are going through. He knows that this world is full of troubles, but He also knows and His resurrection evidences that that’s not the end of the story. Jesus tell us in John 16:33 that He has come to give us peace; He exhorts us—in one of the most comforting passages in all of scripture—to take heart because he has overcome the world (John 16:33).

May that promise enliven you today, no matter your current circumstance, and may we proclaim that truth in word and deed to a desperately needy world.

Why 419 Fund?

Introducing 419 Fund, a new Christian crowdfunding website.

God gave me this project in January of this year in order to help Christians suffering financial loss due to legal situations; due to their stand against the culture that we find ourselves in at this time in our country’s history. We have now broadened our appeal to medical, natural disasters and missions.

Why choose the name 419 Fund? Philippians 4:19 says, “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

All the while I was raising my three children as a single parent, God did just that. Through His provisions, I was able to give all three a Christian education in a prominent Christian school in the DC area.

When I divorced and moved back home with my parents for the first few years, I made a commitment to God to put my children in a Christian school, and God honored that commitment. And, He generously provided for all our physical needs as well – a home, food, clothes (school uniforms) and vehicles.

Our God is awesome, and I wanted to honor Him using this verse, which has been so special to me for these past 40 years.

Check out our website, our values and our current funds. The best thing you can do is promote our site and contribute to the fund(s) that are dear to you – freedom, medical, disaster aid or missions.

Thank you for reading.

Facing the Light

We chose the picture of the woman facing the Light with her  arms outstretched for our Home page for a very specific reason.  She is facing the Light (of the World) with the world behind her.

Last Sunday in Church, we sang: “The cross before me, the world behind me; no turning back, no turning back.” That is what we can to communicate to others about our crowdfunding website. We are totally committed to the cause of Christ in doing God’s will and helping other Christians facing financial difficulties.

Our site’s verse is Philippians 4:19: “But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

Crowdfunding’s History and Potential Benefits

Modern crowdfunding, has been around almost since the beginning of the Internet. In 1997, the rock band Marillion crowdfunded an entire album of their and a few subsequent albums. However, with the rise of websites such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo many other music groups, amateur filmmaker, and entrepreneurs have used the method to great success.

Legal Victories for Crowdfunding

Like many other great ideas, Crowdfunding had to go through a few trials before it was accepted as a legitimate way to fund projects and businesses. In 2012, the Jumpstart Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act made it easier for entrepreneurs to fund their ideas through crowdsourcing. This bill allowed for larger fundraising efforts to be conducted, raised the amount of shareholders a small business could have, and allowed for “general solicitation” which means that people can invest freely into crowdfunding projects as long as they receive something in return. Because of this bill, we have seen a spike in the amount of projects that are being crowdfunded.

Crowdfunding is a Growing Trend

People are choosing to crowdfund their projects at staggering rates and for good reason. Some projects such as Pebble Time, a watch brand, have raised millions of dollars from sites like Kick Starter and Indiegogo. The medium is also experiencing exponential growth. According to Fundable, crowdfunding has had a growth rate of 74% in just 2 years.

Why the Growth?

Crowdfunding campaigns can be advantageous for you or others for many reasons. One of the main reasons this could be a good choice for you is it can provide startup money without having as much liability. When you fund a new business or idea through the bank you often have to provide collateral. However, when you crowdfund a project all the participants share the liability which is usually only a few dollars.

Also, in a lot of the sites that allow crowdfunding participants can contribute ideas to make the product work better. These sites can add forums that can give the creator of the product ways they can improve and an audience to test ideas with.
