Can we out give God?

Can we out-give God? No! He owns “the cattle on a 1000 hills” (Psalm 50:10), and as I found out a couple of years ago, He also owns the ovens in 188 homes. I organized our Concerned Women for America of Virginia cookie drive, and we took 188 dozen cookies to Richmond to show our appreciation to our legislators for their service, giving out cookies to all our legislators, the pages, mail room and security guards.

Giving always provides rewards for the giver, sometimes even more than for the person receiving the gift. God does supply our needs and sometimes even the “desires of our heart.”

Two verses come to mind; the driving verse behind 419 Fund: Philippians 4:19; and Ephesians 3:20:

“Now unto Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Giving brings us satisfaction in our Christian life; living for others brings many rewards. God “gives us richly all things to enjoy” (I Timothy 6:17). 2 Corinthians 9: 6-7 gives a good picture of what kind of giving pleases God the most:

“But this I say, he who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”

And, it makes for a cheerful person.

Living a self-centered, self-absorbed, selfish existence makes for a lonely and oftentimes bitter person. Living a giving, sharing life makes for a healthy life overflowing with joy.
